The fire didn’t hurt the way people expected.

It burned away hesitation first. Then regret. Then the version of herself she no longer recognized.

Below her, the world was collapsing into smoke and memory. Above her, the sky cracked open in red and gold, wide enough for something new to exist.

Rebirth was never gentle.

It was violent, deliberate, and lonely.

As her wings ignited, she understood why so few chose to rise again.
